Our Story

John Moore standing infront of a canyon

Caprock family counseling was born out of the desire to help people. Specifically, to help people explore the shame, trauma, and rugged parts of their journey, so that they can begin the process of healing and discovering their value and worth. I begin this journey as a young boy who experienced, tragedy, trauma, and fatherlessness. As a begin to encounter my own emotional healing through my faith, and through the support of others, I begin to sense a desire to help other people find healing to honor their stories, so that the trauma does not have the last word.

Relational

Our counseling services foster a relational approach, helping individuals and couples strengthen their emotional connections and communication for deeper, more meaningful relationships.

Story-Focused

We take a story-focused approach to therapy, guiding clients in understanding and integrating their personal narratives to promote healing and personal growth.

Presence Centered

We prioritize a presence-centered approach, encouraging mindfulness and present-mindedness to help clients engage fully in their healing journey and daily lives.

Trauma Informed

Our trauma-informed counseling services provide a compassionate, safe space for clients to explore and heal from past trauma using evidence-based methods like EMDR therapy.

Our Vision

At Caprock Counseling, we envision a community where patience and observation guide the journey of self-acceptance and healing. We believe in embracing vulnerability as a source of strength, and we are committed to walking alongside trauma survivors, helping them care for their inner selves and make empowered decisions about their lives.

Our approach is personalized and authentic, recognizing that our wounds and struggles are deeply connected to our unique stories. We help our clients face their anxiety with presence and awareness, not by covering it up, but by engaging with it meaningfully. Together, we will light the fire within, guiding each individual towards their true purpose.

We understand that failure is not a setback but a choice—an opportunity to actively shape our path rather than passively accepting default outcomes. By fostering connections and a sense of community, we support one another in our generative journeys of grieving, healing, and growth.

At Caprock Family Counseling, we listen to the truth and speak the truth, honoring the personal and interconnected nature of our struggles. We strive to create an environment where strength and vulnerability coexist, leading to profound transformations and a deeper understanding of our authentic selves.

Education and Training

Much of my adult life has been focused on helping adults, college students, and kids grow and develop. My experiences in counseling, pastoral ministry, and men's retreats have led me on a path to a passionate desire to support and counsel people of all ages and to assist families towards greater growth. Most recently, I worked as a clinical counselor at a residential facility assisting children, adolescents, and their families, as well as supporting childcare professionals.

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas.  My passion is to help men, women, children, adolescents, and families discover healing and transformation as they explore their stories and forge new paths.  I am clinically trained and informed by my Christian faith, and in my practice, I respect wherever a person finds themselves on the journey of life.  I am married and blessed with four children.  Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, engaging in outdoor adventures, reading, and cooking.
